HYDERABAD
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday slammed the ruling Congress for alleged widespread misuse of power and intimidation during the municipal elections. He accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of resorting to “excesses and atrocities” for fear of electoral defeat.
In a press statement, Mr. Rao said the Congress government had created hurdles for voters and tried to influence them through incentives. Despite these alleged pressures, he commended the BRS staff for showing remarkable courage and determination throughout the voting process. “I heartily congratulate all party workers for their fighting spirit and commitment,” he said.
He added that the tenacity of the cadres infused new energy and confidence into the party during the communal battle.
Mr. Rao alleged that the Congress leadership, shaken by the failure in the recent Gram Panchayat polls, feared similar losses in urban areas and therefore misused the administrative machinery at various stages of the elections. He also alleged that the ruling party was trying to influence public opinion with thousands of crores of ill-gotten gains.
He warned that people will not remain silent in the face of such actions. Accusing the government of targeting BRS cadres, he said the police system was being misused to harass and attack party workers. Mr. Rao predicted that the Chief Minister would soon face the consequences of these alleged violations.
