The jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), which was the Hyderabad metropolitan area with an area of about 1,458 sq km and 14 lakh consumer connections, was expanded along with the territorial reorganization of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Wednesday.

As a result of this organizational restructuring, with the new limits being up to the Core Urban Region (CURE), the board is now divided into three independent regional units or zones Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri.

To improve administrative capacity, ease of operation and efficient service delivery, each zone will now be managed by an Executive Director.

The current Acting Executive Director, who will assist the Executive Director of the Board in day-to-day administration, acts as Joint Executive Director.

Accordingly, the newly appointed are: Joint Managing Director Mayank Mittal, Managing Director (Malkajgiri) S.Pankaja, Managing Director (Cyberabad) M.Santhosh and Managing Director (Hyderabad or Central) Samrat Ashok Nama. The four newly appointed senior officials took charge in their respective zones on Wednesday.

HMWS&SB, after being established in 1989, served the then Hyderabad Municipal Corporation with limits of about 168 km2 and 2.50 lakh connections. Due to the rapid urbanization and expansion of the city, the jurisdiction extended up to 1,458 square km and covered about 14 thousand connections.

Under the current reorganization, HMWS&SB is mandated and will provide water supply and sewerage services, monitor, maintain and develop the water and sewerage network and connected infrastructure in the 2,053 km2 CURE, in addition to building new wastewater treatment plants to serve the entire region.
