The state government has decided to develop Beypore Port in Kozhikode under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
The decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting held on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) in Thiruvananthapuram. A report quoting the office of PA Mohamed Riyas, Minister for Public Works and Tourism, who is also the MLA for Beypore, said the move would help Beypore develop as a port city. The proposal is to spend more than ₹2,000 crore on various works. The project will be implemented by the Kerala State Maritime Board.
Sources said a meeting with the residents would be held in the coming days to ensure their participation. The tender process will be started soon, they added. The project is expected to create jobs for both local residents and others. Mr Riyas also met Ports Minister VN Vasavan to discuss his options.
Meanwhile, Mr. Riyas said in a report that the project will enhance the movement of goods through large containers and that related businesses will benefit. New jobs would be created and existing workers would also benefit. Mr. Riyas added that new roads and bridges would be built and Beypore would soon become a “projected city”.
