The Sri Sathya Sai District Police on Wednesday arrested nine persons allegedly involved in 36 property crimes under Penukonda police station and recovered 40 tolas of gold jewelery and two bicycles.
Addressing a press conference at Penukonda police station, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said Noor Mujamil, a repeat offender linked to 11 cases at Gorantla police station, has been taken into custody. The police seized 13 tolas of gold and two motorcycles from him.
In a parallel operation, eight members of the Arun Kumar gang were arrested from Pavagada in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district for their alleged role in 25 cases of chain snatching and night burglaries. The gang operated in Madakasira and Penukonda markets and rural areas of Madakasira.
According to the police, the gang was allegedly involved in cases reported in Agali, Gudibanda, Kia, Roddam, Penukonda, Somandepalli and Parigi police station limits. A total of 27 tolas of gold was recovered from the gang.
Three special police teams were formed to track and apprehend the accused. Efforts are underway to apprehend another fugitive member. Deputy SP Narsingappa and other police officers from Penukonda division attended the press conference.
