Comedian and filmmaker Varun Grover says he has stopped ranting. But he says Mumbai’s metro system drew him back in.
In the viral video, Grover delivers a heartless yet dramatic monologue about navigating the Mumbai metro, calling it “the weirdest metro line in the world”.
“I know bragging is very dated and I haven’t done it in a long time,” he begins. “But I won’t stop now. This is the final breaking point.”
His main point? According to him, the metro lines behave like strangers who are forced into the same city. “There are three lines. All three have different tickets… To go from Versova to BKC, you have to get on one line first and then get off. Then you have to take a separate ticket for the other line. They don’t talk to each other.”
Grover quips that while commuters are expected to “connect” the routes, the routes themselves refuse to connect. He compares it to global metro systems. “Wherever you go in the world… The lines are connected. You have a journey from inside the station. We didn’t make the journey. We didn’t make the connection.”
But what really drives him to comic disbelief is the stations’ branding. Referring to Andheri station, he says, “Station names. This is the name of Andheri station. Sahi Hai Andheri Mutual Fund. Lahori Jeera. Western Express (sic).”
The ad-style absurdity of the station names – delivered in Grover’s straightforward tone – quickly became the clip’s standout moments.
The internet is joining the joke
The video, which has garnered over 776k views on Instagram, has received comments from celebrities and commuters alike.
Singer Vishal Dadlani chimed in and wrote, “Man this is crazy!!! Puts life in Mumbai into clear perspective! 😂😂 Lahori Zeera station looking to put itself out of misery with a name change soon! #NextElectionCampaignIssue.”
Actor Shreya Dhanwanthary kept it short with: ‘Sahi Hai Andheri Mutual Funds’.
Other users leaned into the humor. “If you don’t travel, you will suffer,” joked one.
Another simply stated, “Delhi Metro Best Button”.
A third wrote: “My problem is with Fevicol. Who suggested they sponsor Marol Naka, which is the world’s worst subway junction?”
Not all reactions were lighthearted. One user wrote: “It amazes me how no one is demanding accountability for literally burning our tax money and shoving ash in our faces. That should enrage us all.”
