Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday felicitated 500 elderly couples above 70 years on behalf of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department.
At the event in Vepery, he launched Phase II of the program to honor such devoted Hindu couples with two sets of dhoti shirts, saree blouse, fruits, thamboolam and holy objects. A total of 3000 couples were honored on behalf of various temples across the state.
Last November, Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin launched Phase I of the scheme, which was announced at a rally where 2,000 couples were felicitated. A total of 20,000 pairs are to be awarded in Phase II.
According to a press release, HR&CE Minister PK Sekarbabu, Chennai Mayor R. Priya, HR&CE Secretary K. Manivasan and heads of various religious mutts were present on the occasion.
