
Nancy Guthrie is missing: Law enforcement officers have made some progress in the case of American journalist Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has now been missing for almost two weeks. Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies and FBI officials arrested the man in the case on Feb. 10, according to reports.
Deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department arrested the person during a traffic stop south of Tucson on Feb. 10, according to an AP report.
Police said in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the person was detained at a location south of Tucson (Arizona, USA), where Nancy Guthrie lived. But he gave no further information.

Meanwhile, multiple media reports say a home in Rio Rico was searched, with a woman claiming to be the detained man’s mother-in-law saying he was picked up by officials during a DoorDash delivery.

Do we know the name of the arrested man?
US news station CNN reported that a woman who claimed to be the detained man’s mother-in-law identified him as Carlos Palazuelos. In an interview with CNN outside her home in Rio Rico, Arizona, she denied that her son-in-law and herself were involved in the Nancy Guthrie case.
“There’s nobody in the house. I don’t know what’s going on. They’re investigating my son-in-law. (He) is a good man, a good father, he has no criminal record and he wouldn’t do anything like this.”
She added that the search came after police were notified that the missing woman was in their home. “We don’t know her. I don’t know who she is. They said they gave a tip that she was at my house. And I told them, ‘You can go in and search the house.’ There’s nobody there.” They invade my property and take a lot of pictures.’
The woman, identified as Josefina, added in an interview with NewsNation, “My daughter and him and the kids, my grandkids, were doing DoorDash when they got pulled over here.”

Neither the police nor the FBI have officially confirmed the identity of the arrested person.
Detained man tried to flee to Mexico?
According to a New York Post report, citing sources, the person of interest was detained by police for questioning while heading to the US-Mexico border. They added that the man was chased and stopped in a small border community about 95 km south of Nancy Guthrie’s home and about 14 km from the US-Mexico border.
However, the sources could not confirm whether the man was trying to flee to Mexico and did not provide details on his identity, the report added.

Court search allowed in Rio Rico?
ABC and NBC News reported that authorities reportedly plan to search property associated with the detainee. In a post on X Fox News, she said vehicles from the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Department were seen outside a residence in Rio Rico, Arizona on February 10.
Other local accounts also claimed that the FBI and police were conducting a “court-ordered” search of the Rio Rico property.
However, all this remains just speculation. Neither the police nor the FBI have officially confirmed the reports.

The FBI has released footage of a potential suspect
Notably, the FBI has released surveillance images of a potential suspect from the X investigation, with FBI Director Kash Patel saying federal investigators and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have spent the past eight days working with private sector partners to retrieve missing or damaged footage from Guthrie’s home.
He also posted two videos showing a potential subject connected to the case. Media releases showed that on the morning of Guthrie’s disappearance, Guthrie was wearing gloves, a mask, khaki pants, sneakers and a backpack at the front door and appeared to be tampering with the home’s security camera.
The AP report added that it was not immediately clear if the person being held was the same person captured on surveillance video outside Guthrie’s home.
