The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested seven persons, including two rioters, for allegedly conspiring to murder a rival in an act of revenge. The police also recovered 30 deadly weapons, including longs, machetes and daggers, along with a car and a two-wheeler used by the accused.
According to the police, the conspiracy stemmed from the murder of a miscreant attached to Ashok Nagar police station limits in February last year. Investigators said the victim’s brother, along with his associates, allegedly planned to eliminate the person accused of plotting the earlier murder in retaliation.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Organized Crime Wing of the CCB tracked the suspects on June 26 as they moved around in a car and on a motorcycle, allegedly armed with deadly weapons and waiting for an opportunity to commit murder.
The CCB team nabbed and arrested all the seven accused before they could carry out the attack.
A case has been registered at the CCB police station and further investigation is underway. Police said they are trying to track down and arrest the remaining absconding accused allegedly linked to the conspiracy.
Senior police officers have commended the officers and staff of CCB’s Organized Crime Wing, West Division, for successfully thwarting the planned revenge killing with timely intervention.
