A 46-year-old woman is fighting for her life while a man sustained burn injuries after a gas cylinder exploded at Manjunatha Layout in KR Puram police station on Monday evening.
The injured were identified as Poornima, a housewife and owner of a three-storey building, who sustained severe burns, and Venkatesh (46), a laborer and a tenant living on the third floor of the building.
There are two rooms on the third floor, according to police. At around 7 pm, Venkatesh noticed a gas leak from the adjoining room and alerted Poorni. When she opened the door, she allegedly turned on the light as the room was dark, which triggered the explosion.
Venkatesh suffered burns while trying to save Poorni. Both were taken to hospital for treatment. Firefighters and emergency services rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control, the police added.
