Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has made his intentions clear ahead of the high-voltage clash with India, promising his side will stick to a “positive and attacking” brand of cricket on February 15.
Pakistan on late Monday called off their proposed boycott of the marquee match, paving the way for one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament. After the performance at the post-match presentation Pakistan won by 32 runs over USAFarhan said the team will not change its approach against its arch-rivals.
“We will go into it with the same mindset as in our previous matches against India, including the Asia Cup. We will try to stay positive and play attacking cricket,” Farhan said.
Farhan was named man of the match for his fiery 73, an innings that formed the backbone of Pakistan’s total of 190. The opener revealed that even during practice he felt he was in good touch.
“The way we practiced yesterday, the ball was flying really well on my bat in the nets. I already told our batting coach (Hanifa Malik) yesterday that I felt good about today’s game.
“I was confident. I even said that I will finish the match to win the man of the match award. I have made a personal target to win at least two to three man of the match awards in this World Cup,” he added.

Pakistan captain Salman Agha said the team’s flexibility with the bat was a key strength. “We are fine, we are chasing, but we try to bat first and get above par, then try to defend. We have a flexible order, the top three are ready to go and then the finishers can go early or if we lose wickets, we have batsmen who can take the game deeper,” Salman said.
After getting past the Netherlands in their opener, Pakistan put in a much more confident display against the US. “Clinical performance, we started well with the bat and batted really well in the middle. When we come to bowl, we have a world-class attack and they scored 190, we knew we could defend it,” he said.
However, the captain admitted that there is still room for improvement. “There is always room for improvement, we would like to mix better in the power play, be more clinical. These are the things we want to improve.”
A disappointed USA captain Monank Patel felt his team lost control in the middle overs. “We thought we played the power game well but not the middle overs, we gave up a lot of runs. We came back at the death, the bowlers played well,” Patel said.
Having lost both their matches so far, severely damaging their hopes of reaching the Super Eights, Patel said his team will be looking to end their campaign on a high note. “We played good cricket when we came here, we were confident but the little mistakes cost you. We want to end this World Cup with two wins.”
