Rashid Khan has called for less focus on field conditions and more emphasis on skill execution ahead of Afghanistan’s crucial World T20 match against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
“Nowadays I think what I often hear is the discussion about the wicket on the ground. I think we don’t really discuss the skills that we have,” Rashid said in the pre-match press conference.
Despite playing at what is effectively his home ground with Gujarat Titans, the Afghanistan spinner dismissed suggestions that familiarity would give his side an advantage.
“To be honest, nobody in the world is going to tell you how the wicket is going to behave before the game. To remember those things a lot, I think it affects you mentally as well,” he explained.
Rashid also played down talk of his upcoming 700-wicket milestone, insisting that he is only focused on team success. “I didn’t have any goal in mind to take 700 wickets and stop.
