
A businessman in Bangladesh has been hacked to death by some unknown attackers, just three days before the country goes to national elections. According to a report in India Today, the incident happened in Mymensingh district where another mabn, Dipu Chandra Das, was killed by a mob.
The victim of the recent attack in Bangladesh has been identified as Sushen Chandra Sarkar – a 62-year-old rice trader and owner of “Messrs Bhai Bhai Enterprise” at Bogar Bazar junction in Trishal upazila, Mymensingh district.
According to reports, the incident happened on Monday, February 9 around 11:00 PM when unknown men attacked Sushen Chandra Sarkar with a sharp weapon.
NDTV said, citing police, that the attackers stabbed a Hindu businessman to death, then closed the shutters of his shop and left him there. After closing the shutters, the killers fled. His family later found him in a store covered in blood.
Trishal Superintendent of Police Muhammad Firoz Hossain said an investigation has been launched to identify and arrest the accused in the case.
On December 18, Dipu Chandra Das (27), a garment worker, was beaten to death in Bhaluka area of Mymensingh district on December 18. According to the police, the murder was allegedly prompted by accusations of blasphemy.
Bangladesh’s largest minority organization, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, condemned the killing, calling it a brutal act that threatens communal harmony.
In a statement, the organization said: “A garment worker named Dipu Chandra Das was brutally beaten to death yesterday (December 18) at around 9 pm in Bhaluka, Mymensingh by a group of miscreants on charges of so-called blasphemy. His body was then hanged on a tree and set on fire, provoking actions that undermine harmony.”
“The council strongly condemned and protested against this heinous incident and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and ensuring exemplary punishment,” he added.
A few days ago, a fuel worker was crushed to death after he tried to stop a vehicle from leaving a petrol pump without paying, police said. The Daily Star newspaper reported that the victim was identified as 30-year-old Ripon Saha, who worked at the Karim gas station in Goalanda Mor.
“We’re going to file a case of murder. The worker was standing in front of the car after they refused to pay for the fuel and they ran him over before running away.” Rajbari Sadar Chief of Police Khondakar Ziaur Rahman told news portal bdnews24.com.
