FIFA World Cup T20: More bad news hits Italy after losing historic opener | Cricket News – The Tech Word News

Italy captain Wayne Madsen is likely to miss the rest of the T20 World Cup stage after dislocating his shoulder during the first match against Scotland, according to head coach John Davison. Madsen was injured while diving to stop the boundary and landed awkwardly, forcing him to leave the field with his arm in a makeshift sling. He was later dropped as Italy chased down a big target that was essentially one player short.

“He dislocated his shoulder. The physio managed to get it back but he’ll have to go for more scans to see how serious it is,” Davison said. He added: “I think it will be doubtful…. I won’t say he is out, but I think it will be doubtful if you dislocate your shoulder in cricket. It will be quite difficult to come back from but we will see what the scans say.”Davison admitted that the injury was a big setback for the team: “Having the captain fall like that at the start of the game was difficult for us. Things didn’t go our way either.” Still, he hopes Madsen will stay in the squad and help from the side: “I hope so. He is an integral part of the team. He is a very experienced head. We may have to give him a red shirt, but he can join the coaching staff.”Despite the blow, Italy showed some fight. Ben and Harry Manenti formed a strong partnership to keep them in the chase and Davison felt the goal was possible at one stage. “200 on that wicket is achievable… I kept hoping we could get back into the contest. It would just take a couple of big overs.”He also noted that many of the players were new to big crowds: “A couple of guys on this team haven’t played in front of 100-plus people… So it’s a great experience.”
