Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh escorts ailing Kuki-Zo MLA Vungzagin Valte from Imphal Airport to New Delhi on Sunday, February 6, 2026 in BJP Air Ambulance.
Ailing Kuki-Zo MLA Vungzagin Valte was airlifted from Manipur capital Imphal to New Delhi for advanced treatment at a private hospital in Gurugram on Sunday (February 8, 2026).
Mr. Valte, who represents the Thanlon Assembly constituency for the Bharatiya Janata Party, sustained severe injuries during ethnic violence in Imphal in May 2023 and was staying in Churachandpur after prolonged treatment in New Delhi.
A Manipur government spokesperson said his condition deteriorated on Saturday (February 7, 2026) after which he was taken to Churachandpur Medical College Hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit for stabilization.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh monitored Mr. Valte’s health throughout the night and sent an advanced life support ambulance along with a team of doctors from Imphal to Churachandpur around midnight.
“Through teleconference, doctors from Imphal remained in constant touch with the medical team at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital. The Chief Minister arranged for an air ambulance to evacuate the MLA, but his condition remained critical overnight,” the spokeswoman said.
Mr. Valte was shifted from Churachandpur Hospital around 3 pm on Sunday after his condition improved. The deputy commissioner of the district accompanied him while two BJP legislators — Tongbram Robindro Singh and Sanasam Premchandra Singh — escorted him from the village on his way to the Imphal airport.
The Chief Minister received Mr. Valte at the Imphal Airport around 4:20 pm and interacted with his family members. “I will wait for your return when you are fully recovered,” the MLA said before seeing him off about 10 minutes later.
It was Mr. Valte’s first visit, albeit in an ambulance, to the Imphal Valley in nearly three years since ethnic violence broke out between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities on May 3, 2023. The conflict has left more than 260 dead and displaced 62,000 others.
