A day after the government officially released the names of soldiers who died during Operation Sindoor, the Congress on Saturday (June 27, 2026) accused Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh of lying to Parliament by saying that no Indian soldier died during the military operation.

The government disclosure revealed a discrepancy between the defense minister’s statement in Parliament and the official record, the party said, demanding that the Center present the full facts regarding Operation Sindoor to the House during the upcoming monsoon session.

Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi said that during the parliamentary debate on Operation Sindoor, he urged the defense minister to present the “complete truth” to Parliament and the nation. “Instead, the House was told unequivocally that our troops suffered no loss,” he said in a post on the X social media platform.

A year later, the government itself officially released the names of the six workers who made the “ultimate sacrifice” during the operation, he said.

“The government’s own admission reveals a complete contradiction. Parliament has been misled on a matter of the highest national importance. The families of our martyrs deserve the truth. Our brave soldiers deserve to have their sacrifice honored and recognized with dignity. Is this how the government has chosen to honor those who laid down their lives in the service of the nation?” he said.

Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala also hit out at the government, saying it failed to speak the truth even on the issue of soldiers’ casualties.

“The age of the lie is short, the martyr’s truth is indelible. Who does not speak the truth even for martyrdom, what respect will he show to the martyrs! Who shamelessly lies in the temple of democracy, who will believe them!” Mr. Surjewala said in a post on X.

Casualties are an inevitable possibility in military operations, said senior Congress leader and Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari, questioning why the government was trying to hide the facts.

“There are losses in kinetic action. Why obfuscate facts and obfuscate, even to Parliament — the highest legislative institution of the nation?” he said.

“If there are any other facts regarding Operation Sindoor, the government should directly place them on the table of Parliament during the next monsoon session without objection,” Mr. Tewari said.
