The transport department on Sunday said it will implement the Rah-Veer scheme across the state to encourage citizens to provide immediate assistance to road accident victims and help reduce the number of deaths. The move means a cash incentive of ₹25,000 for those who save lives.
Under the scheme, people who act as ‘Good Samaritans’ and help save the life of an accident victim will be recognized and rewarded by the government. They will be called Rah-Veers and will receive a certificate of appreciation in addition to a cash incentive.
The ministry said a circular has been issued to all district collectors to form district-level committees to lay down the selection process and ensure wide publicity for the initiative. The details of those who render first aid and shift the victims to hospitals will be recorded by the police and hospital authorities, after which the cases will be referred to the district committee for review.
These committees will be headed by the concerned District Collector. Approved names will be forwarded to the Transport Commissioner for incentive release.
