Nepali bowler Nandan Yadav was left stunned after South African legend Dale Steyn offered to coach Nepal. On Sunday, February 8, Steyn praised Nepal for their spirited performance in the T20 World Cup match against England at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, a match full of twists and turns and drama.
Chasing 185, Nepal fought till the last ball, needed six runs but England held their nerve to win by four runs. Impressed by Nepal’s fearless display against the 2022 champions, Steyn took to social media to offer his guidance and support to the emerging cricketing nation.
Steyn wrote: “Nepal, I offer my services if you ever need them! Up, up and UP!”
Nandan said it was a huge moment for Nepalese cricket that a player of Steyn’s caliber offered to help. “So this is a big thing for us. A legend who ruled cricket for 10 years is tweeting about us,” Yadav said at the post-match press conference.
However, Nandan said it will be up to the team management to decide whether Steyn will coach Nepal in the future. “But it’s up to the management team, so we can’t contact him directly. Maybe we could, I’m not sure how to answer that,” Yadav added.

Nandan had an impressive day at the office after finishing with figures of 3-0-25-2. First he got hit by Jose Buttler, then he dismissed Harry Brook. On the back of his spell, Nepal pulled England back, leaving them to score only 184 for seven when the British were expected to score above 200.
Chasing 184, Nepal got off to a flying start through Kushal Bhurtel and a resilient partnership between Rahul Paudel and Dipendra Singh Airee kept them in the hunt. Their bowlers, including Airee and Nandan Yadav, constantly threatened England with crucial wickets.
With 10 runs needed from the final over, Nepal dared to dream of a historic victory and the Wankhede Stadium roared with belief. But Sam Curran held his nerve and England survived a thrilling match to break Nepali hearts in a dramatic T20 World Cup clash.
