Unnecessary delay in the completion of Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Teegalaguttapalli in Karimnagar remains one of the major problems faced by the residents of Division 2 and 3 in Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) limits.

The pressing issue affecting both commuters and local residents has once again taken center stage ahead of the local elections due to be held on 11 February.

The ROB, whose foundation stone was laid in July 2023, is yet to be completed. The ROB works were subsequently started under the Central Government’s Setu Bandhan scheme at an estimated cost of ₹154 crore. It was designed to ease the traffic snarl at the busy level crossing near Karimnagar railway station.

Even as the blame game between major political parties continues over the delay, the traffic snarl on the busy Karimnagar-Luxettipet stretch has become a daily test of the incomplete structure. In addition, the clouds of dust emanating from the ROB construction site are worrying motorists and residents of the surrounding areas.

Residents of several colonies in the 2nd and 3rd divisions have formed a WhatsApp group in an attempt to overwhelm the relevant authorities to ensure speedy completion of the ROB.

Traffic jams are a common occurrence during peak hours at the level crossing, points out Tirupathi, a resident of Teegalaguttapalli.

He recalls several instances where ambulances carrying critically ill patients got stuck in massive traffic jams.

Our persistent inquiries with workers at the ROB site met with cryptic responses citing “land acquisition” and other issues, complains Ramesh, a resident of Saraswathi Nagar.

“We do not want any further guarantees and speedy completion of ROB is the only solution to our daily suffering,” he insists.

The officials concerned were not available to comment on the exact reason behind the delay in completion of the ROB works.
