
Agni Dev Chopra, son of Bollywood filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, has slammed reports that he has registered for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 auction, calling them “false and misleading”.
Clarification came later Agni Dev’s name appeared in the list of players who have reportedly registered for the 11th edition of the PSL. According to the list available on the official website of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Agni Dev has been listed as a US citizen with a base price of PKR 600,000.
Agni Dev took to Instagram to deny the speculation and said that he has not signed up for the Pakistan T20 league. His statement was later shared by his mother Anupama Chopra on social media, adding to his denial as the news gained traction in both cricket and film circles.
“There are false and misleading reports circulating on my behalf regarding the tournament. I would like to clarify that I have not signed up for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals. I request everyone not to fall victim to the misinformation,” Agni Dev wrote on his Instagram Story.
The news sparked widespread debate, largely due to Agni Dev’s Indian roots and his growing reputation in domestic cricket. Born in Detroit, USA, he holds an American passport and according to multiple reports, he registered as an overseas affiliate player from the United States, which he has now categorically denied. How has Agni Dev fared in Indian domestic cricket?
Agni Dev boasts of a strong cricketing pedigreewho featured in Indian domestic cricket till 2025. He played in major tournaments including Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). His breakthrough came during the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy Plate season, where he dominated the competition and finished as the leading scorer.
In his debut first-class season, Agni Dev amassed 939 runs at an average of 78.25, winning the prestigious Madhavrao Scindia Award – a feat officially recognized by the BCCI. He also made history by becoming the first first-class cricketer to score a century in his first four matches, marking his arrival on the domestic scene.
He followed up this stellar season with an even more prolific 2024-25 campaign, scoring over 1,800 runs in 11 first-class matches at a staggering average of 94.94. A left-handed batsman who can also mix with his right-arm off-spin, Agni Dev has consistently shown his all-round potential across formats.
With his emphatic denial, Agni Dev has now put an end to speculation surrounding his alleged PSL registration and reiterated that he remains focused on his cricketing future in the United States.
