An awareness meeting on Nipah was held in Kozhikode

Health Minister Veena George on Saturday (February 7, 2026) launched an awareness session on Nipah infection at Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode.

The event was organized by the Kerala One Health Center for Nipah Research as part of efforts to strengthen surveillance against the infection.

Ms. George claimed that Kerala has developed its own model of Nipah treatment. Such awareness sessions are held to help people stay alert to the possibility of infection. The steps taken include conducting scientific and systematic activities to ensure people’s involvement, streamlining the work of various government departments and making international studies on Nipah available. Ms. George also unveiled the Nipah Digital Library and an information poster.

TS Anish, Nodal Officer, Kerala One Health Center for Nipah Research, and A. Naveen, State Director, Kerala Center for Disease Control conducted the information session. Surveillance steps to be taken by various government departments were discussed. Thottathil Raveendran, MLA presided over the event which was attended by senior health officials.
