The White House is reportedly planning a meeting of leaders on Gaza on February 19, a US official and diplomats from the four countries who are on the council told Axios.
With this meeting, the White House is trying to push for the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and to raise money for reconstruction, the report claims.
“This will be the first meeting of the Peace Council and a fundraising conference for the reconstruction of Gaza,” a US official told Axios.
The report claimed that plans for the summit were at an early stage and could change.
There has been no official information from the White House yet.
What to watch out for?
Axios reported that Israeli officials say Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House on February 18, the day before the planned rally.
Netanyahu has accepted Trump’s invitation for Israel to become a member of the governing body but still has not signed the charter, he added.
If Netanyahu attends the Peace Council meeting, it will be his first public meeting with Arab and Muslim leaders since before the October 7 attacks and the Gaza war.
Trump’s “Prada of Peace”
US President Donald Trump unveiled his much-anticipated “Peace Plan” for Gaza in Davos this January. He claimed there was a commitment to ensure Gaza was demilitarized and “beautifully rebuilt”.
Amid skepticism, most Western allies have not joined, in part because the charter gives the board a broad mandate and Trump has veto power over its decisions.
Some allies believed that Trump was trying to establish an alternative UN Security Council.
Of the 60 countries invited to join, 35 have agreed to sign up to the project, a senior administration official told AFP.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the leaders from around the world whom Trump invited to the Gaza Peace Council.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor shared Trump’s invitation letter to PM Modi.
Gor said on X: “Honored to extend @POTUS invitation to Prime Minister @narendramodi to participate in Peace Council to bring lasting peace to Gaza. Council will promote effective governance to achieve stability and prosperity!”
In the letter, Trump wrote: “It is my great honor to invite you as Prime Minister of the Republic of India to join me in a critically historic and monumental effort to consolidate peace in the Middle East while embarking on a bold new approach to global conflict resolution!
Role Board to Peace
The peace council is expected to oversee Gaza’s post-war transition as the ceasefire, which entered into force on October 10, 2025, moves into its second phase.
Its mandate is to include the creation of a new Palestinian committee in Gaza, the deployment of international security forces, the disarmament of Hamas and the reconstruction of the war-torn territory.
