A team of students from Shree Bharath Vidyaashram CBSE Senior Secondary School, Puducherry is among the recipients of Wipro earthian Awards 2025.
A press release from Wipro Limited, which recently hosted the 15th annual Wipro earthian Awards 2025 at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, said Anurag Behar, CEO, Azim Premji Foundation, and Narayan PS, Global Head of Sustainability and Social Initiatives, Wipro Limited, and the winning Wipro Foundation teams presented certificates and prize money to Wipro Foundation.
The annual program seeks to promote integrated sustainability education and recognizes schools and colleges across India that demonstrate meaningful and sustained engagement in sustainable practices and principles.
The Puducherry school team comprising S. Prithish, G. Varshini, S. Tanika, K. Dulasi, A. Taynshik and led by their teacher R. Arun Kumar was among the 25 winning teams selected by an independent panel of judges who evaluated over 2,000 entries for the Wipro earthian 2025 programme.
The projects showed a new perspective on biodiversity, waste and water, combining practical activities with reflective written work.
A team from Puducherry led a large-scale plastic clean-up and awareness drive in the Murungapakkam mangrove forest where 79 students collected, segregated and documented plastic waste in just 79 minutes. Through interactions with local residents and city officials, they learned about poor segregation, household dumping and inadequate waste infrastructure affecting the mangrove ecosystem.
The Bipin Rawat World Record 2025 initiative combined science, civic action and media outreach, resulting in a student-led environmental movement and a sustainable action plan for long-term mangrove conservation, according to a press release.
