Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Friday said that any decision to divide Belagavi district will have to be taken by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating an indoor box cricket stadium at Zilla Bala Bhavan in Belagavi on Friday, Mr. Jarkiholi said that district leaders had already met the Chief Minister on several occasions with a request to bifurcate Belagavi district and carve out a new district. But the final decision would have to be taken by Mr. Siddaramaiah, he said.
To a query, he said there was no need to wait for the budget allocation for the development of Belagavi district. Instead, the pace of development could be increased by utilizing the funds available in various departments. Ashoka Circle, Chennamma Circle and Kolhapur Circle will be created in the coming days, Mr. Jarkiholi said.
On the supply of drinking water to Hubballi-Dharwad, he said that it is not possible to reduce the demand of drinking water and moreover, sufficient water is available in Hipparagi reservoir.
On the mayoral election in the Belagavi Municipal Corporation, he said that the Congress party will not interfere in the election process and whoever gets the majority will rule.
