
India Under-19 captain Ayush Mhatre was delighted to continue the legacy of Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur as he led the team to their sixth U-19 World Cup title. India beat England by 100 runs in the final on Friday, February 6 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare as the country completed a unique World Cup run in the last two years.
The Indian senior men’s team are the current holders of the T20 World Cup having won the title in 2024 under Rohit Sharma. Later, the Indian women’s under-19 team secured the 2025 T20 World Cup under the leadership of Niki Prasad. Following this success, the Indian senior women’s team won the 2025 ODI World Cup at home under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur.

After the historic triumph, Mhatre said he was delighted to continue the winning legacy established by the senior teams.
“I can’t express my feelings but it’s an unforgettable moment and an incredible journey for us. The boys played really well and the targets we set were met perfectly. They played their natural game and I’m really happy. We’re happy to carry on the legacy that Rohit Sharma has also won the World Cup, Harmanpreet has also won the World Cup and now we too,” he said after lifting Mhatre’s legacy.

Mhatre also praised Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his blistering innings in the summit clash that completely blew England away.
“Yeah, he (Sooryavanshi) just stuck with it. We don’t have words for him, what kind of innings he played. But we know he’s a wonderful batsman and he showed what he can do in this match. That’s the same attitude we should play with and how we played here. We might not play together again in the same team,” he added.

Sooryavanshi slammed a 55-ball century and went on to play a record innings of 175 off just 80 balls, studded with 15 fours and as many sixes. Courtesy of his breathtaking knock, India posted a massive total of 411/9 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, England were bundled out for 311 in 40.2 overs despite Caleb Falconer’s sensational century of 115 off 67 balls.
RS Ambrish emerged as the pick of the bowlers for India as he recorded figures of 3/56 in nine overs while Deepesh Devendran (2/64 in six overs) and Kanishk Chouhan (2/63 in 8.2 overs) scalped two wickets each.
After India’s total victory, Sooryavanshi was named Man of the Match for his aggressive innings and was also named Player of the Series after finishing as the second highest run scorer with 439 runs from seven innings at an average of 62.71 and a strike rate of 169.49, including one hundred and three fifties.
