
Officials and priests of the Sri Kalyana Venkateswara temple in Srinivasa Mangapuram show off the new curtain to be decorated up to the threshold in the sanctum sanctorum on Thursday ahead of the annual Brahmotsavams.
Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, a customary purification ritual before the annual Brahmotsavams, was performed at the Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy TTD Temple at Srinivasa Mangapuram near Tirupati on Thursday.
As part of the ritual, the temple premises including the walls, pillars and ceiling were cleaned by sprinkling water and then a rich mixture prepared with aromatics such as ‘Namam’, ‘Srichurnam’, ‘Kasturi’ turmeric powder, ‘Pachaaku’, edible camphor, sandalwood powder, cinnabar, ‘Kicheriga etc’ was sprinkled.
M. Subramanyam, a local tailor, donated two curtains and two ‘Kuralams’ (ceiling cover) to the temple, which were accepted by Deputy Executive Director Special Grade V. Varalakshmi, Vigilance Officer B. Giridhar and Deputy Executive Director Gopinath.
A curtain will be decorated on the main threshold in front of the sanctum sanctorum, which houses the presiding deity of Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy, while ‘Kuralam’ will be used to cover the ceiling.
The nine-day Brahmotsavams will begin on February 8 ‘Dhwajarohanam’, while the important events are ‘Simha Vahanam’ (February 10), ‘Kalpa Vriksha Vahanam’ (February 11), ‘Pallaki Utsavam’ and ‘Garuda Ratham SwarnaFreva’ (Garuda Ratham SwarnaFeva’ (February 10). (February 13) and ‘Rathotsavam’ (February 15).
