A transient tiger resorted to a fresh cattle kill on the outskirts of Rajamahendravaram town on Thursday, February 5, three days after it hunted a calf near Torredu on the banks of the Godavari river. In a fresh kill reported near Punyakshertram area of Rajanagaram Mandal, a tiger killed two cattle.
Forest Range Officer Daveedu told The Hindu, “The tiger is roaming in the fields of horticulture crops and palm oil farms which are nearly five kilometers from Rajamahendravaram town on Thursday morning.” Mr. Daveedu is part of the tiger monitoring team. Forest officials have warned local residents not to participate in their farm work to avoid any inconvenience. Schools remain closed in Rajamahendravaram Rural and Rajanagaram mandals in East Godavari district.
The Rajamahendravaram north zone police have deployed police personnel to close all roads to prevent vehicular movement into the area where the tiger is roaming. Sound systems were arranged to announce the warning to all agricultural workers present in the fields.
