
Police in Hulimavu on Tuesday found a huge cache of explosive materials from a densely populated area of the city.
The incident was reported from Akshayanagar.
According to the police, gelatin sticks were being illegally used to break stones at a 100×100 feet site without obtaining mandatory permits. The vandalism was allegedly carried out between 10:30 and 14:00 in a busy residential area that posed a serious threat to public safety.
After receiving the information, the Hulimavu police conducted an inspection. During the intervention, the police secured 15 gelatin sticks and 30 detonators and explosive material on the spot. A tractor and a machine were also seized.
Police said the daily wage laborers working at the site fled the area as soon as the police arrived.
A bomb disposal squad was deployed after the incident. A case has been registered at Hulimav police station against website owner Chandra for illegal storage and use of explosives.
Police officials said strict legal action would be initiated against those responsible for using dangerous explosives in the crowded area without permission or security measures. The bomb squad will file a detailed report on the source of the explosives, on the basis of which further legal action will be taken.
