Tremors were felt in Kolkata and its adjoining areas on Tuesday evening (February 3, 2026), after a magnitude 6 earthquake with an epicenter in Myanmar hit parts of eastern and northeastern India, an IMD official said.
A section of high-rise residents and office workers reported experiencing tremors after the earthquake that hit Myanmar at around 21:04 IST and lasted for several seconds.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the tremors.
“The epicenter of the earthquake was somewhere in Myanmar. We are ascertaining the details of the earthquake,” the official said.
Later, the IMD said in a statement that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 27 km, “with latitude: 20.42 N and longitude: 93.88 E”.
