
The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), along with the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and other companies involved in offshore oil and gas operations have been asked to share their maps, geographical coordinates and details of wells, abandoned wells and pipelines to prepare an action plan for disaster preparedness in the district of Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema.
In a district level meeting attended by all stakeholders on Tuesday, District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar announced; “A disaster response team will be formed and will be available in the Collectorate to respond to any disaster, including gas leakage or blowout of natural gas from wells in the district. The team will be equipped with necessary equipment, which will be procured at a cost of ₹ 1 trillion.”
“All companies must submit details of installations, geographical coordinates of pipeline systems and wells both operational and abandoned to facilitate preparation of action plan in case of any disaster,” said Mahesh Kumar.
Joint Collector T. Nishanthi, Additional Police Inspector Mr. Prasad, Deputy Superintendent of Factories GVVS Narayana and other officials were present.
