
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday 03 February 2026 launched a scathing attack on opposition parties, especially Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, for criticizing the India-US trade deal, saying the deal is in the final stages of being detailed among the negotiating teams.
Goyal said this while talking to the media hours after the ruckus in the Union Parliament.
US President Donald Trump announced the deal on Monday evening after speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reducing mutual tariffs from the previous 25% to the current 18%.
“Indians are celebrating the trade agreement which is in the final stages of being detailed between the negotiating teams of both countries. We will issue a joint statement from both countries shortly along with the details that we will shortly provide between the United States of America and India. And once the final agreement is written and the joint statement is finalized,” Commerce Minister Goyal said.
Piyush Goyal also said that once the technical processes are completed, all the details of the trade deal will be shared.
The minister also said that India has better trade deals than its competitors, adding, “India’s sensitive sectors, especially agriculture and dairy, have been fully protected.
“PM Modi has taken care of the interests of animal husbandry, agriculture and dairy sector,” he said.

Speaking to the media, Piyush Goyal said that through this upcoming deal, which is in the final stages of detailing, several sectors are set to get numerous opportunities as exporters sell their commodities to the US market.

Dismissing all concerns in the industry, Goyal also mentioned that the announcement of the trade deal along with the reduction in tariffs was informed by the US as the Western country was the first to impose reciprocal tariffs on world nations, including India.
“I believe this deal is a milestone for India’s future,” Goyal said during a press briefing.
Piyush Goyal also assured Indians that this deal with the United States will make every citizen proud while the central government protects the interests of the people and safeguards sensitive sectors like agriculture and dairy.
