February 3, 2026

The Dalit Bahujan Resource Center (DBRC) organized a livelihood program and extended assistance to 33 women involved in hair collection and sale in Vijayawada on Monday.

These women, who belong to the Yerukula, Budaga Jangam and Mondibanda communities, sell aluminum utensils in exchange for human hair. They sell a kg of hair for ₹5000.

As part of the programme, District Collector NTR G. Lakshmisha interacted with the beneficiaries and distributed aluminum utensils to support their traditional livelihood. The support is aimed at boosting their incomes, a DBRC press release said.

The Collector appreciated the DBRC for implementing the initiative and encouraged them to expand the program to benefit more women in the district.

Addressing the gathering, DBRC Deputy Director Ch. Samuel Anil Kumar said that the organization has supported 620 waste and hair pickers with various livelihood interventions and expressed the hope that the beneficiaries will use the support effectively to achieve higher income and better living conditions.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Urban Community Development (UCD) Project Director P. Venkat Narayana and other officials attended the programme.
