A five-year-old girl narrowly escaped a road accident at Kodiyathur in Kozhikode district on Monday (February 2) after the timely intervention of a private bus driver. The incident happened around 11 am
According to local shopkeepers who witnessed the incident, the child suddenly ran across the road after getting out of the autorickshaw while the parents were unaware of her sudden movement.
The bus driver Shinoj noticed the child entering the road and immediately swerved the vehicle completely to the right. As there were no vehicles approaching from the opposite direction, the maneuver prevented a possible accident, a local businessman said.
Visuals of the narrow escape were widely shared on social media, prompting praise for the driver’s quick response. He was later honored with a ponnada by the workers of the Indian Trade Union Center in Kodiyathur.
Police sources said the child belongs to a family from West Bengal who had recently come to the district in search of work.
