HYDERABAD

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) cadre staged protests across Telangana on Sunday against the summoning of former Chief Minister and party president K. Chandrashekhar Rao by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the alleged wiretapping case. Tension prevailed at several places as the police prevented them from holding rallies, dharnas and burning effigies.

There were several scuffles between BRS workers and police personnel at Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters here, as they tried to burn effigies of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and proceeded towards KCR’s Nandinagar residence, where he was being investigated by the SIT as a witness in the case.

In several district and district headquarters, BRS leaders, including sitting and former MLAs, MLCs, MPs, former ministers and other senior leaders, led rallies and other forms of protests, including rasta-rokos, cycle rallies and black flag marches. They termed the SIT notice addressed to KCR as political harassment, especially revenge.

Party leaders and former ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy, S. Niranjan Reddy, G. Jagadish Reddy alleged that the case was fomented against the backdrop of a case filed against Mr. Revanth Reddy when he was in the Telugu Desam Party and was caught red-handed with a bag containing bundles of his MLA election bribes. 2015.

Party general secretary and former IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar said it was an unrelated and unwanted fake case aimed at politically harassing KCR. He reiterated that wiretapping was largely legal when done according to the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court and every state and the central government had been dealing with it for a long time. He sought to determine whether any terrorist attack that had been foiled so far would have been possible without wiretapping.

“I will not be swayed by cheap tactics”

Party working president KT Rama Rao said, “A man who has not buckled under pressure from Delhi, a man who has not for a second moved away from the long battle for Telangana, a man who has not flinched through all the hardships of this state and a man who has stood firm against all evil forces, will not be shaken by your cheap tactics, much less he can create and create KCR is in history.”

Taking an indirect dig at the Chief Minister without taking his (CM’s) name or post, KTR said, “You tremble at his name. You have no stature to take his name. You can spew venom today but he is indestructible. It is the history of Telangana and you would not even be a footnote.”

After nearly five hours of scrutiny by SIT officials, KCR, accompanied by party leaders, went to the balcony of the Nandinagar residence and waved and greeted the large number of party ranks gathered outside.
