The retirement secured the first major title for Devika and also the first major title for India fairly early in the season.She is the third Indian girl to win a Super-300 tournament after Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu.Last year, Indian shuttlers struggled for success with only Lakshya Sen (Super-500), Ayush Shetty (Super-300) and a few others winning the Super-100 events.The surprise winner, who beat several higher-ranked players including top seed and local favorite Supanida Katethong, was delighted with her show, saying:“I’m really happy today because it’s my first Super-300 title. I’m excited to play more tournaments and I’m very happy today. I played very good matches here.”Indeed, the youngster has played some great games this week. Her courage was on full display as he saved five game points to battle the higher-ranked Huang YuHsun of Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals. Devika was trailing 15-20 but won seven straight points to stun her opponent.
