A man in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly strangled by his wife while her parents and brother held him down. After a gruesome crime, a woman and her family hang a man’s lifeless body from a window grill with a damper to make it look like a suicide.
News agency PTI, which reported on the crime in Bareilly, said the post-mortem report found strangulation as the cause of death and ruled out suicide.
The crime came to light after police found the body of the victim, 33-year-old Jitendra Kumar Yadav, hanging in his rented house under Izzat Nagar police station on January 26.
Yadav, a contract employee at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), lived in a house in Girija Shankar Colony, Kailashpuram, with his wife Jyoti.
Although the death was initially reported as a suicide, a complaint filed by the deceased man’s brother led to a case being registered against wife Jyoti and three others for abetting suicide.
Subsequently, when an autopsy revealed that the cause of death was strangulation, the accused in the case were charged with murder.
The police then arrested Jyoti and her parents Kalicharan and Chameli. However, Jyoti’s brother Deepak remains absconding and efforts are on to trace him.
The marriage failed
The interrogation of the accused revealed chilling details as Jyoti revealed that she and Jitendra had known each other since their student days and got married last year.
However, frequent arguments over financial matters led to growing bitterness between the couple and eventually to a breaking point.
During interrogation, Jyoti revealed that she informed her family about the argument that broke out on the fateful night after which her parents and brother entered their house. They then proceeded to detain Yadav as Jyoti strangled her in a fit of rage.
A detailed investigation is underway in the matter, PTI reported quoting the police.
