GR Indugopana’s novel Aano won a literary award instituted by Navodaya Library in West Kallada in memory of poet and educationist D. Vinayachandran. The award selection panel hailed the novel as a rare work that uses extensive research to explore the long-distance migration of Malayalis and the historical reality of Malabar during the Renaissance era. The story depicts the lives of an elephant and a group of people who traveled across the sea from Kochi to Europe on a sailing ship centuries ago. The award, which carries a purse of ₹25,000, a plaque and a citation, will be presented during a memorial ceremony to be held on February 11.
