Four individuals were arrested in separate operations by the State Task Force (STF) on Sunday (February 1) as law enforcement agencies stepped up operations against illegal ganja trade and illicit liquor movement in the city.
In the first case, the STF A team seized 30.15 kg of ganja worth over ₹ 15 lakh in Dhoolpet and arrested three members of a gang involved in the sale of contraband originating from Odisha. Twelve people were booked in connection with the seizure, officials said.
The accused, identified as M. Sangeet Singh, J. Harikrishna and Sunil Singh, were arrested at a house in Rahimpura in Dhoolpet where they were allegedly preparing to sell ganja brought from Gajapati in Odisha district. According to officials, Manvi Singh, Charan Nandini Singh, Shilpa Bhai, Durga Singh, Nandini, Rajababu and Sitile Singh are among those named in the case and are currently absconding.
Police said the gang followed a pattern of individuals from Odisha renting buildings in various cities to store and sell ganja transported from their home state. The seized ganja and the arrested accused have been handed over to Dhoolpet Excise Station for further investigation.
In a separate operation, the STF seized 66 bottles of duty-free liquor originating from Delhi and Goa. The operation was carried out while checking vehicles in Pahadishareef based on information that illegal liquor was being transported from Shamshabad Airport.
The persons responsible for the consignment of liquor have been apprehended and handed over to Meerpet Excise Station for necessary legal action. Officials said further investigations are underway in both cases to identify wider networks involved in the illegal trade.
