After the final defeat at the Australian Open, Djokovic has the almighty appeal

Novak Djokovic kept his cards close to his chest regarding his playing career after a heartbreaking loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final on Sunday 1 February. After entering the final with a morale-boosting win over Jannik Sinner, the Serb was simply unable to channel the same energy as the Spaniard closed out the match in four sets and created history.

I always believe in myself and I think that’s really needed when you play at this level against incredible players like Carlos (Alcaraz) and Jannik (Sinner) in the last few days. But I have to be very honest and say that I didn’t think I would be standing at the closing ceremony of a Grand Slam again,” Djokovic said.

The Serb remained grateful for the support he received, but ended his speech somewhat cryptically, leaving his future in the sport up in the air.

“I owe you my gratitude for pushing me forward. God knows what happens tomorrow, let alone six months or 12 months. It’s been a great ride. I love you guys,” he concluded.

at 38, Novak Djokovic is already pushing the boundaries when it comes to competing with the best. Something that perhaps even legendary names like Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal would not have done during their playing career. Regardless of whether the Serbian actually officially calls his career time, one thing is certain – he is the greatest of all time.
