Permanent exemption of TET sought for teachers in AP
Officials of the Forum of Registered Teachers’ Organizations (FORTO) have launched a nationwide campaign from Friday to support their demand that in-service teachers be given a permanent exemption from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
Members of Parliament submitted a statement urging them to amend the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act 2009 to provide a permanent TET exemption for other teachers.
Chairman of the forum Karanam Harikrishna said that petitions in this regard have been submitted to Members of Parliament across the state.
He said other teachers joined the government service by fulfilling the eligibility criteria prescribed by the recruitment rules in force at the time of their appointment.
It is unfair to force teachers who have been imparting quality education to students for several years to appear for TET again, forum members said, adding that mandatory TET causes mental stress for serving teachers and creates insecurity about their job security.
The leaders said they will continue to present petitions until the end of June and will launch protests if needed.
