
Martyrs’ Day was celebrated on Friday in Belagavi on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Members of the Samana Manaskara Sangha organized a meeting and formed a human chain in the Kittur Channamma circle. Yallappa Himmadi, writer and chairman of Betageri Krishna Sharma Trust, labor leader GV Kulkarni and others addressed the rally. The meeting was attended by representatives of various religions.
Another meeting was held in the central library. Police officers and visitors observed two minutes of silence.
Deputy Director Ramaiah said the purpose of the day was to pay tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence and to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. Librarians SS Seemimath, Anand Muthagi, Sumit Kavale, Prakash Ichalkaranji, Sunil Kumar, Sangeeta Navi, EN Ambekara and all the staff were present.
