Cameron Green’s dismissal in the second T20I between Pakistan and Australia has sparked debate after the Australian all-rounder appeared to question the bowling action of Usman Tariq during the match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday.
PAK vs AUS, 2nd T20I: Highlights | Scorecard
Cameron Green was visibly unhappy after being dismissed by Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq in the 11th over of Australia’s chase. As he walked back into the pavilion, Green was seen throwing his arm around, seemingly indicating he felt the delivery was illegal.
The incident quickly gained momentum, with fans and former players dissecting the dismissal across social media platforms. Tariq’s unorthodox act he was already under scrutiny and footage of the moment was widely shared online, with several users calling the bowler a “blatant chucker”.
However, Tariq continued to play without interruption as no on-field complaint was formally lodged by the Australian team or the umpires during the match.
What do the ICC Rules say?
According to International Cricket Council rules, bowling is considered illegal if a player’s elbow extends more than 15 degrees during batting. This measurement is made using standard ICC analytical protocols, starting from the point where the bowling arm reaches a horizontal position until the ball is released.
The rules also make it clear that any natural hyperextension of the elbow is not taken into account when judging legality. If the bowler is not flagged by the umpires, the action can only be reviewed through the ICC’s established biomechanical testing process.
So far, there has been no official statement indicating that Tariq’s action will be reviewed.
Pakistan won the series
Controversy aside, Pakistan dominated the match to seal an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series with a commanding 90-run victory over Australia.
After opting to bat, Pakistan posted an impressive 198 for 5. Captain Salman Ali Agha led the charge with a blistering 76 off 40 deliveries while Usman Khan provided solid support with a smooth 53 off 36 balls.
In response, Australia struggled against Pakistan’s spin-laden attack and were bowled out for just 108 in 15.4 overs. Leg-spinners Abrar Ahmed (3 for 14) and Shadab Khan (3 for 26) shared most of the wickets as Pakistan wrapped up the series with one match remaining.
