Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Huzurabad, Padi Kaushik Reddy, has been booked by the Huzurabad police for allegedly abusing and obstructing the police in the discharge of their duties.
Police registered an FIR against Mr. Reddy under Sections 189 (3), 126 (2), 132, 299, 196, 351 (2) r/w 190 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
This follows a sit-in protest staged by Mr Reddy along with his family members and supporters on the highway in Huzurabad town around noon on Thursday (January 29, 2026) after he was prevented from going to his native Veenavanka to attend the annual Sammakka-Saralamma Maha Jatara.
Police are said to have cited specific instructions not to allow a large convoy of vehicles into the Jatara to avoid overcrowding and to maintain law and order.
Mr. Reddy and his followers got upset over this and entered into a verbal altercation with the police after which the police dispersed the protesters from the middle of the road.
Late in the evening of the same day, there was commotion at the altar (gadde), dedicated to Goddess Sammakka, at the Jatara site in Veenavansa when Mr. Reddy had a heated argument with the police.
He claimed that the woman sarpanch of the village was not allowed to offer coconut at the altar, which the police denied. Amid the shoving, he was pushed away and taken in a police vehicle to the Saidapur police station by a squad of police personnel. He was later released.
Sources added that the long-simmering differences between Mr. Reddy’s followers and one of the key members of the Jatara organizing committee further deepened parallel to the ongoing Jatara.
