On Wednesday night, a gang hacked to death a history-maker at Chinna Kottakuppam in the district.
Police said the victim, R. Appu alias Jawahar, 24, a resident of MGR Nagar in Chinna Kottakuppam, was involved in several cases, including murder. He was on bail in a case registered at Muthialpet in neighboring Puducherry.
Jawahar was drinking liquor with his friends when he was attacked by an armed gang who arrived on motorbikes. He tried to run away, but the gang chased him and hacked him to death, police said.
A case has been registered.
