San Antonio police are investigating an incident at IDEA Judson after a report of a person with a gun prompted a campus lockdown early Thursday (Jan. 29), though authorities later said no weapon was found and no ongoing threat.
According to news reports, San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers responded to a call around 7:50 a.m. at IDEA Charter School on Judson Road after a caller reported a student in tactical gear was carrying a gun.
“The caller reported that a student in tactical gear was carrying a weapon,” SAPD said in a statement. The school management immediately closed the campus and alerted the police as a precaution.
Search finds no weapon
Police conducted a thorough search of the area but did not find a weapon or anyone armed, reports said.
A SAPD officer who addressed parents gathered outside the school said additional resources, including EMS and fire crews, were deployed as a precaution.
Lock removed
IDEA Judson was placed on lockdown shortly before 10 a.m., with school officials reportedly confirming that normal dismissal procedures will resume once police complete their inspections.
An investigation is underway
SAPD said officers believe a prohibited item may have been reported, but the incident remains under investigation. Authorities reiterated that there were no injuries and urged the public to remain vigilant.
IDEA Judson is located in the 1300 block of Judson Road, between Lookout Road and Interstate 35.
