Nine people were injured, four including a five-year-old boy seriously, in a rabid dog attack at Shiradi Layout near the University of Agricultural Sciences here on Wednesday.
An enraged public stoned the rabid dog to death.
The victims suffered numerous injuries on their bodies.
Sheetal Kabadi, Gangavva Uppar, Laxmi Madar and five-year-old Rishik, who sustained serious injuries, are being treated at the District Civil Hospital along with five who sustained relatively minor injuries.
Residents complained about the menace of stray dogs in the locality and accused the municipal authority and the local gram panchayat of inaction despite repeated appeals.
Residents said that since Shiradi Layout is on the fringes of city corporation limits, neither civic leaders nor gram panchayat officials have responded to their issue.
Despite complaints filed a fortnight ago, no action was taken against the stray dog menace, they said.
