Leave Babar Azam alone: Pakistan skipper not worried after poor performance in Big Bash League

January 28, 2026

Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has asked the media to leave Babar Azam alone as pressure mounts on the star batsman after his disastrous tenure in the Big Bash League.

In a press conference ahead of the T20I series against Australia, Agha talked about how frustrated he was with how all the questions were on Babar Azam and not on other players. He even suggested that the media should leave him alone.

WHAT DID SALMAN ALI AGHA SAY?

“My only wish is that one day I come to a press conference and there are no questions about Babar. I mean there are eleven, or rather fourteen other people in the team, other batsmen; think about them too, talk about them too,” said Salman Ali Agha.

“Leave him alone, let him bat. He batted well. You can say he couldn’t perform in the Big Bash the way his team expected him to. But it’s very good for us. I think he’s playing his role very well and that’s all that matters to me now. What happened in the Big Bash doesn’t matter to me at all,” he added.

BBL SEASON BABAR AZAM

In the 11 matches he played for the Sydney Sixers as an opener, he managed to score just 202 runs at an average of 22.44 and a strike rate of 103.06, a scoring rate that is well below current T20I standards.

Babar Azam also had an excited moment which he took from him spotlight when his fellow opener, Steve Smith, he decided to reverse the strike and use the burst of energy for himself, given that Babar was struggling with the bat. There was even a chatter among ex-cricketers that they considered him to be the biggest scumbag, which went viral.

He was too released by the franchise due to national duty as they reached the final where they ultimately fell short of the Perth Scorchers.

We will see if Babar will play a big role with the bat and with the T20 World Cup coming up. He wasn’t the right choice, but his experience could come in handy.
