The Srisailam police reportedly seized ₹30,000 in cash from the car of Maharashtra businessmen and handed it over to the Income Tax department as they did not produce valid documents to prove the source of the amount.
Security personnel at the check post at the entrance to Srisailam reportedly found wads of currency notes in a Maharashtra-registered car and alerted their senior officials. After preliminary questioning, the cash was handed over to the local police.
Srisailam Circle Inspector (CI) Ganganath said gold traders from Maharashtra often visit Hyderabad for regular business requirements and from there travel to Srisailam for Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy’s darshan. In this case, the vehicle was stopped for a regular check and the businessmen were unable to present any documents for the cash, he explained.
The cash has been handed over to the Income Tax Department for further investigation, he said.
