Four people from Markapuram die, six injured when SUV hits parked truck on Macherla-Veldurthi highway

Four members of a family were killed and six others injured after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) they were traveling in rammed into a stationary truck on the Macherla-Veldurthi highway in Palnadu district on Friday (June 26, 2026). Among the dead were two men and two women.
According to information provided to The Hind by Palnadu District Superintendent of Police B. Krishna Rao, the accident took place around 3.30 am in Macherla town police station limits.
Police said the truck suffered a flat tire overnight and was parked on the left side of the road. The driver allegedly turned on his parking lights and placed sticks and leaves behind as warning indicators before going into town for help.
The SUV, which was traveling from Hyderabad in Telangana to Pamur in Markapuram district of Andhra Pradesh, rammed into the rear of a parked truck. Thirteen members of a family from Veligandla mandal in Markapuram district were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Two men and two women died in the accident and six others sustained injuries and were taken to Macherla Government Hospital for treatment. The condition of the injured was not immediately known.
The police registered the case and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
