At the UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Monday, India criticized Pakistan over its “false” claims regarding Operation Sindoor.
India’s permanent representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, said that Pakistan’s official had “presented a false and self-serving account of Operation Sindoor in May last year”.
“Until May 9, Pakistan threatened more attacks on India. But on May 10, the Pakistani army directly called our army and pleaded to stop the fighting,” Harish said.
An Indian representative said the destruction of several Pakistani airbases by the Indian operation, including images of destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars, was in the public domain.
“We heard the representative of Pakistan talking about a new normal. Let me reiterate that terrorism can never be normalized as Pakistan wants,” Harish said.
The Indian official added that Pakistan, an elected member of the Security Council, “has a single-point agenda to harm my country and my people.”
“It is not normal to tolerate Pakistan’s continued use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy. This sacred chamber cannot become a forum for Pakistan to legitimize terrorism…,” said India’s UN representative.
He criticized Pakistan saying that it has no standing to speak on matters internal to India.
“The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” the official reiterated.
Talking about the Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan, Harish said, “India entered into the Indus Waters Treaty 65 years ago in good faith, in a spirit of goodwill and friendship.”
“For six-and-a-half decades, Pakistan has violated the spirit of the treaty by causing three wars and thousands of terrorist attacks on India. Thousands of Indian lives have been lost in Pakistan-sponsored terror attacks,” he said.
“India was forced to finally announce that the treaty will be suspended until Pakistan, the global epicenter of terror, credibly and irrevocably ends its support for cross-border and all other forms of terrorism,” recalled India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Parvathaneni Harish.
“Pakistan is advised to introspect on the rule of law. It could start by asking itself how it allowed its armed forces to carry out a constitutional coup through the 27th amendment and give lifetime immunity to its chief of defense forces…,” he said.
