AP Transco Joint Managing Director G. Surya Sai Praveenchand said on Monday that the utility has set an ambitious target of completing about 55 major transmission projects worth nearly ₹ 9,320 crore during this year. These projects are expected to bring 8,853 MVA of transformer capacity and 1,558 circuit kilometers of transmission lines to the state grid.
Participating in the Republic Day celebrations along with AP Genco Managing Director P. Pulla Reddy at the Vidyut Soudha here, Mr. Praveenchand said that new 400, 220 and 132 kV substations have been developed at strategic locations to ensure uninterrupted, reliable and quality power supply.
He said AP Transco currently operates 380 substations and 1,030 power transformers with a total capacity of 71,049 MVA, besides more than 33,000 circuit kilometers of high voltage transmission lines. In recent years, the company commissioned and increased the capacity of an extra high voltage substation to 3,240 MVA and laid nearly 950 kilometers of new transmission lines, resulting in significant improvements in system reliability and voltage profile across the state.
Mr. Praveenchand said transmission losses have been reduced to an all-time low of 2.60% due to extensive digitization, real-time monitoring and network optimization. He added that Transco is rolling out 1,500MW or 3,000MWh Battery Energy Storage System projects in two phases to support grid stability, renewable energy integration and peak demand management.
Andhra Pradesh has a total installed capacity of 21,153 MW, with renewable energy accounting for 37% of installed capacity and 22% of total electricity generation. The state recorded a peak power demand of 13,712 MW in 2024-25, which is estimated to increase to 15,223 MW in 2025-26, he said.
Transco directors JV Rao, AKV Bhaskar and NV Ramana Murthy, AP Genco directors M. Sujay Kumar, P. Ashok Kumar Reddy and V. Usha and additional secretary P. Roja also spoke.
